Enyimba International forced their host Bidvest Wits to a 1-1 draw in the first leg of their CAF Confederation Cup playoff tie in Johannesburg on Friday.
Bidvest Wits went in front as early as the 4th minute through Daine Klate, after a defensive blunder by Isiaka Oladuntoye. Enyimba responded almost immediately. A smooth play between Abdulrahman Bashir and Ibrahim Mustapha, provided the latter the opportunity to equalize for the visitors a minute later.
The hosts piled pressure on The People’s Elephant in search of another goal. Fatai Dauda, the Enyimba’s goalkeeper was called into action many times, as against his opposite number, Moeneeb Josephs, who was barely called to action since Enyimba’s equalizer. Dauda and his defence line however did keep out the South African side for the rest of the game, ensuring a stalemate, which gives the Nigerian team the advantage of an away goal.
The return fixture is scheduled for the UJ Esuene stadium, Calabar on April 18.
