Driver Docked For Injuring Pedestrian


A truck driver, Ibrahim Awolu, has been arraigned before an Ogba Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for injuring a pedestrian, Lawal Sikiru, by driving recklessly.
The prosecution, Clifford Ogu, told the court that Awolu committed the offence on April 24, 2018. He further said the defendant had refused to disclose the other persons he was with on the fateful day and where the truck was kept. Also, the prosecution said the defendants declined to foot the medical bill incurred by his victim. Ogu cited that the offences committed by the defendants contravened Sections 18, 19 and 26 of Road Traffic Law of Lagos State 2012.
However, the Awolu (the defendant) pleaded “not guilty” when the three-count charges preferred against him where read out.
Ruling, presiding Magistrate J. A. Adegun, after listening to both counsel, granted the defendant a bail of one hundred thousand naira (N100,000) with two sureties in like sum.
Adegun also said both sureties must be gainful employed, residents of Lagos and must show evidence of tax payment to the government.
The case was adjourned till May 9 for mention.
