Illegal Wine Factory Busted In Lagos

The Lagos Police Command has busted an Illegal wine factory at Ojuwoye market in the Mushin area of the state.

Edgal Imohimi, the Commissioner of Police, disclosed this during a press briefing on Tuesday. He said the 55-year-old suspect, Benjamin Ojukwu, was arrested based on credible information available to the command.

The CP said the operation was led by the Area ‘D’ commander, ACP Akinbayo Olasoji, who stormed the market with his men on March 30.

Ojukwu, who was paraded at the command, Ikeja, told Newbreak.ng, that he had been producing adulterated drinks for more than four years.

“I started this business more than four years ago in Nnewi, Anambra state and I have about eleven workers that I pay salary but my factory caught fire and I lost everything few days after getting NAFDAC approval. I had to relocate to Lagos to start afresh.

“I have not gotten a factory in Lagos, someone had given me a land in Sango and I have drawn a plan. I stay in a room with my wife for now, I produce in my house and sell in the market” he said.

Items recovered from the factory include various brands of wine and hot drinks suspected to be adulterated, empty wine bottles and labeled bottle corks of different types of wine.

Imohimi said the suspect would be charged to court upon conclusion of investigation.
