A 20-year-old man, Jamiu Rafiu, has been arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing property worth N1.3m, belonging to one Dare Alabi. The defendant was said to have burgled the apartment of the “complainant and stole three iPad phones, three laptop computers, four phones, seven ATM cards of different banks, a driver’s licence and N15,000 cash.”
Police prosecutor, Victor Eruada told the Court that the defendant committed the offence on March 23 in the Ilupeju area of Lagos state. He said Rafiu was apprehended when he tried to steal from Alabi’s neigbhour, while his accomplice escaped.
“The accused was questioned by the Police, and he confessed to stealing the items,” Eruada said.
The offences contravened sections 287, 307 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The accused pleaded ‘not guilty’ to the charges of burglary leveled against him.
Presiding magistrate, Dan Oni granted the defendant bail in the sum N500, 000, with two sureties in like sum. She said that the sureties should be gainfully employed and show evidence of two-year tax payment to the Lagos state Government.
The case was adjourned till May 16, 2018 for mention.
