A 23-year-old man, Azeez Olagunju, has been arraigned in an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stabbing one Destiny Anyawu before robbing her of her belongings in Eti-Osa, Lekki area of Lagos State.
Olagunju is standing trial on a three count charge of stealing and assault.
The defendant was said to have waylaid his victim on April 2 around 9:20am at Railway Line, where he forcefully snatched a bag containing one ZTE mobile phone valued at N20,000, a First Bank ATM card and cash sum of N4,500, belonging to Anyawu.
It was gathered that the victim had attempted to keep her things from being carted away prompting her to engage in a struggle with her attacker. But Olagunju allegedly brought out a knife with which he stabbed his victim in her left arm. Anyawu survived the attack but sustained injury.
The prosecutor, Insp. O. Adebayo told the court that the offence was punishable under Sections 411, 173 and 287 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.
However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him.
O.O. Olatunji, the presiding magistrate, granted the accused a bail of N50,000 with one surety in like sum. The case was adjourned till May 2, 2018.
