Some armed men reportedly invaded the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission, at Mopamuro Local Government of Kwara state, and carted away the result sheets from the verification exercise on Senator Dino Melaye’s recall. The News Agency of Nigeria reported that the gunmen shot sporadically into the air, damaged vehicles and carted away the documents. The INEC officials reportedly fled in different directions to avoid being shot at. The NAN said an INEC staff told it that the an aide of Governor Yahaya Bello led the invasion because the results were not what the government expected. More so, an electorate at Ward 06, unit 04, Funmilayo Ojo, was displeased to have found her name among signatures collated for the senator’s recall. She allegedly said: “It shall not be well with the perpetrators of such act”. Newsbreak.ng had reported a low turnout of electorate in most polling booths across the Kogi West Senatorial district. The apathy and denial by said signatories to the recall process seemed to confirm Senator Melaye’s assertion that the records were filled fictitious names.
