Police Arrest Robbers, Recover Stolen Cars


The Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad, FSARS, of the Lagos State Police Command has arrested a group of armed robbers, who specialized in snatching cars in different parts of the country.

The suspects: Ridwan Mamud, 23, Oyesanmi Kazeem, 31, Usman Umar, 42 were paraded at the command Headquarters in Ikeja on Tuesday.

The gang leader, Umar who spoke with Newsbreak.ng said that he only acted as a middleman during the gang’s operations.

”I don’t go out with them, if they steal the car I buy it from them and resell,” he said.

Recovered from the robbers are two locally made pistols, one  black Toyota Highlander Jeep 2012 model with registration number APP 965 CY, unregistered Toyota Camry Saloon car, unregistered Honda Saloon car, unregistered Mazda space bus, Toyota RAV 4 Jeep 2014 model with registration number RBC-864-HW and  an unregistered Toyota Matrix Saloon Car.


The IPO in charge of the case said two guns were recovered from the suspects adding that investigation is still ongoing to track the rest of the gang.

In a related development, operatives of the command arrested a robber, Salami Joseph, who stole a Lexus 330 Saloon car with registration number BDG 700 EV belonging to one Ajayi Adedotun. The victim resides at Bakare Estate, Ajuwon, Lekki.

Edgal Imohimi, the Commissioner of Police, said the command had received a complaint on March 19 that the car was stolen at a hotel in Lekki Ajah, where it was parked. He however, said the stolen car was recovered at Abuja.

The CP also said the suspect was arrested at Ekpan area of Warri, Delta state while his accomplice identified only as Marshal was still at large.
