The operatives of Rapid Response Squad, RRS, of the Lagos State Police Command have chased four suspected armed robbers into a bush in the Isheri area of Lagos state, following a tip-off.
The fleeing suspects, who disguised as passengers, had boarded a commercial bus heading to LASU-Iba from the Iyana Ipaja area of Lagos state.
The armed robbers reportedly held passengers of the vehicle hostage, robbing them of their phones, among other valuables.
Imohimi Edgal, the state Police Commissioner disclosed this at the Lagos state Police command on Monday.
Edgal quoted the driver of the vehicle, Sherrif Dada, as saying, “we picked the passengers and we dropped the first passenger at Diamond Estate bus-stop. One of the passengers (suspected robber) in their 20s brought out a gun and told me to stop.
“Just after pinning the gun to my head, the other robbers began to ransack the passengers particularly, a lady suspected to be carrying a handbag and her Infinix Note 4 android phone.
“It wasn't quite long my conductor escaped that they threw me down on motion after sighting an RRS patrol vehicle chasing them. They felt I was not fast enough.”
The suspected armed robbers were said to have stopped grabbing passengers’ valuables at the sight of RRS officials. The robbers fled into the bush, leaving the bus behind.
Recovered from the bus were a locally made gun and an Android mobile phone, which they collected from one of the passengers.
