The Nigerian Senate on Wednesday, adjourned its plenary to enable lawmakers ascertain the whereabouts of Dino Melaye, senator representing Kogi West in the upper Legislative chamber. Melaye was yesterday arrested by the police for allegedly buying firearms to some hoodlums in preparation for the 2019 elections.
Melaye jumped out of the police convoy while being conveyed to Kogi state. He was hospitalized and rearrested inside the hospital.
While deliberating on the incident on Wednesday, Senator Oluremi Tinubu moved a motion that the Senate adjourn plenary to immediately go in search of the senator.
Tinubu’s suggestion follows several accounts of earlier speakers that they were turned back while attempting to visit Melaye at the hospital on Wednesday.
The Senate thereafter adjourned plenary after a voice vote.
