Some thugs have disrupted a meeting of members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, loyal to Sen. Suleiman Hunkuyi, representing the Kaduna North Senatorial District of the state, on Sunday. The men, numbering about 10, were said to have stormed the NUT End Well Hotel around 3:15pm and torched the main hall. Party members and supporters reportedly took to their heels during the attack.
The Punch reports that the thugs were brandishing cutlasses and other dangerous weapons and attacking anybody in sight. Although no life was lost, five persons sustained injury and were rushed to the Barau Dikko Specialists Hospital in the state capital.
Security operatives shot into the air to disperse the hoodlums who were spotted brandishing their cutlasses on the road leading to the hotel.
Hunkuyi, before the attack, had told party members that congress must hold at all levels as against the planned imposition of candidates. He said it was necessary that Nasir El-Rufai was voted out of the Government House in 2019.
Newsbreak.ng reports that Hunkuyi's house, which served as a factional secretariat, had been demolished by the state government in February. The government claimed the building was ''removed for flagrant violations of land use and non-payment of ground rent since 2010.'' It also said the ''illegal violation of use had begun to distress neighbours who were being forced to endure an influx of thugs and blockage of the road.''
