Two young men, Elijah Ogunyemi and Wasiu Saliu, have bagged five years each for theft. They were convicted on two counts of theft and conspiracy. The convicts had reportedly robbed a man of his phone valued at N150, 000. Benson Emuerhi, a police prosecutor, said the convicts – who he called professional pick pockets – robbed their victim of his Infinix phone on April 11 at Ketu, Lagos. According to him, the accused are “The accused attacked the complainant and robbed him of the phone and as a result, a mob wanted to set them ablaze before the police came and arrested them”, he said. Delivering her verdict, , Magistrate O. Sule Amzat of the Ikeja Magistrates Court, said the sentencing would serve as a deterrent to others.
