Some gunmen have killed 27 people, including women and children, in the Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna state. The fresh attack occurred on Saturday, barely two days after Ibrahim Idris, the Inspector-General of Police, and Mohammed Mohammed, General Officer Commanding, GOC, 1 Division, Nigerian Army, Kaduna, visited the area.
Idris had ordered the deployment of additional 200 police officers to the area to curtail the incessant attacks.
Members of the Birnin-Gwari Vanguard for Security and Good Governance who pleaded anonymity told TheCable that the gunmen came in from the neighbouring Zamfara state. They said the men had shot sporadically killing anyone in sight.
The source said many people were still missing and that arrangements were being made to evacuate those who sustained injuries during the attack.
Newsbreak.ng recalls that some miners had been killed by gunmen in Birbib Gwari about seven days ago. 13 others were seriously wounded while six were hospitalised at the General Hospital.
