Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, the Chief of Army Staff, has said the Nigerian Army would facilitate the return of Internally Displaced Persons, IDP, to their homes in Yobe and Borno states. He said this at the inauguration of a water project in Balanga Local Government Area in Gombe state.
“We are planning for the major exercise, called Operation Last Call in Northern Borno and parts of Yobe State.
“We know the importance of agriculture in the life of ordinary citizens. We want to ensure that by the time we move into northern Borno very soon people will return to their homes, resettle and commence agricultural activity for this year’s rainy season,” he said.
Buratai solicited public support for the operation and informed that military vehicles and personnel would be deployed in the affected communities.
In his remarks, Charles Iliya, deputy governor of Gombe, who stood in for Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo, thanked the Nigerian Army for the project.
He also commended them for ensuring security in the region and the country at large.
