Balogun’s Mainz Escape Relegation From Bundesliga

Super Eagles defender, Leon Balogun is relieved to see his German club side, FSV Mainz escape being relegated. Mainz beat the drop on Saturday after a 1-2 victory over Borrusia Dortmund at the Signal Iduna Park in the German Bundesliga.
Bote Baku and Yoshoro Moto scored for Mainz inside the opening 15 minutes, before Maximillian Philip halved the hosts’ deficit.
The win took Mainz to 36 points from 33 matches and left them 14th in the 18-team table. They are six points better than Wolfsburg, who occupy the final relegation spot in 16th place.
Balogun tweeted aftet the game: “What a way to be safe in the league!!! It was a hard season with a lot of ups and downs”.
“This year definitely showed us that every single soul is needed to reach our goals. Congrats to the whole club, the team, the staff, the employees, family & friends and of course the fans .”
The centre-back who has just recovered from a rib injury, has made 14 league appearances for Mainz this season.
He had missed Mainz’s last three games as a result of the injury.
Though it remains to be seen if he would remain at the club next season. His contract is set to expire at the end of the current campaign, and reports has said he is being courted by Huddesfield in the English Premier League.
