Ayodele Fayose, the governor of Ekiti, has said he would pay salary arrears owed state workers. He said this during the workers' day celebration, popularly referred to as May Day, held at the Oluyemi Kayode International Stadium in Ado-Ekiti, the capital of the state. The state government is also owing arrears of pensions and gratuities to retirees.
Fayose said: “The welfare of workers in Ekiti is begging for urgent action.
“I need not tell you that that workers are hungry, it is clearly written on their faces and this is negatively affecting our productivity as well as our tempo of responsibilities at home.
“The development has also affected our children and other dependants like our aged parents,” he said.
The Nigerian Labour Congress, Ekiti chapter, led by Ade Adesanmi had decried the plight of the workers owing to their unpaid emoluments .
