Jorge Sampaoli, Argentina’s National team head coach has said Inter Milan striker, Mauro Icardi would not be part of the team to next month’s World Cup in Russia.
Sampaoli told journalists on Thursday after meeting Italy-based Argentine players, that Icardi “does not fit into the team’s set-up”. The coach reportedly met with Juventus duo of Gonzalo Higuain and Paulo Dybala. He also met with AC Milan’s Lucas Biglia, before travelling downtown to tell Icardi that he would not be going to the World Cup with the Albiceleste.
Icardi has scored 27 goals for Inter Milan in all competitions this season and rated as one of the best marksmen in the Serie A. But it is believed he has been overlooked due to his poor relationship with Lionel Messi and other players in the team.
Icardi's problem started after he married Wanda Nara, wife of his former mentor, Maxi Lopez. The forward had been having an affair with Nara while she was married to Lopez causing a break in the marriage. Argentine players have since shown disaffection to Icardi, who has since married Nara and made her his agent.
