Yusuf Abdullahi Attah, the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, has been removed from office. Attah was removed by 24 members of the Assembly opposed to his governance style.
Also, impeached were other principal officers such as the Majority leader, Deputy Majority leader, the minority leader, House leader, Chief Whip, Leader of the G24. The opposing group was reportedly led by the Assembly’s former speaker, Kabiru Alhassan Rurum. They were led to the complex by anti-riot policemen, giving rise to speculation the incident might have been orchestrated in cahoots with the governor, Abdullahi Ganduje. The police on Monday said they were at the parliament to forestall a breakdown of law and order. Magaji Musa Majia, a superintendent of police and spokesperson for the Kano Police Command, said the police contingent was at the complex to “ensure that nobody disrupts the peace.”
