Senator Buruji Kashamu has rebutted a Friday ruling by the Appeal Court, Lagos Division, okayed his arrest and subsequent extradition to the U.S, which is seeking him for drug offences. In its ruling, the Appeal Court upturned the perpetual injunction barring the NDLEA from arresting the senator, after he claimed his fundamental rights were infringed upon. In his statement regarding the latest appeal court ruling, Kashamu said the matter dealt upon was had nothing to do with extradition. He described reports saying the court approved his arrest as “sheer mischief and over sensationalism by some reporters”.
“In the meantime, my lawyers have filed a Notice of Appeal and a Motion for injunction pending the determination of the appeal to the Supreme Court of Nigeria. And I trust that the apex court will do justice,” the embattled senator said.
