A magistrate court sitting in Lokoja, the capital of Kogi state, has ordered Senator Dino Melaye be kept in police custody for 39 days. The senator was arraigned for conspiracy and aiding a jailbreak. The prosecution counsel, Alex Iziyon challenged the court’s jurisdiction to try the matter. But defence counsel Mike Ozekhome argued otherwise, citing Section 60 of the Penal Code which makes conspiracy a bailable offence under the Kogi State Administration of Criminal Justice.
Having listened to both parties, Chief Magistrate Suleiman Abdulahi gave his ruling.
The case was then adjourned until June 11, 2018.
