A policeman and a bank official have been killed in a robbery attack on a bank near the palace of the Alawe of Ilawe-Ekiti, Adebanji Alabi, on Tuesday. The attack, which lasted for about an hour, was said to have occurred shortly after a bullion van delivered money to the bank.
Alabi said the robbers had deployed dynamites and grenades in the attack while shooting sporadically into the air.
''It was a terrible experience, my palace is very close to the bank. It was terrifying, it was like a war front. They kept detonating grenades during the attack.
''I was in the palace during the robbery, the attack happened less than a hour after a bullion van delivered cash to the bank. We have been in touch with the governor and the state police command over the attack,” he said.
The robbery is the second in the state within three weeks. The first happened at Ifaki Ekiti, where a policeman was also killed. Also, there was a robbery on banks in the Offa area of Kwara state which the lives of about 20 people, including nine policemen.
