A 17-year-old politician’s son, Jimoh Bamidele and his friend, Afeez Anifowoshe, 19, were Monday arrested by the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly attempting to rob an Uber driver with a toy gun.
The suspects were paraded at the Command Headquarters’ at Ikeja, Lagos.
Edgal Imohimi, Lagos Police Commissioner, in a press briefing told journalist that the culprits were caught attempting to snatch a Toyota Corolla car with registration number KJA 911 EG from one Otun Olugbenga near Itowolo bridge with a toy pistol.
Imohimi said “the hoodlums boarded the cab from Surulere headed to Agric area of Ikorodu, Bamidele the one with the toy gun grabbed the driver by the neck and he lost control, hit the kerb and the vehicle somersaulted.
“The driver raised alarm which brought the attention of policemen to the scene, they chased and arrested the robbers.” he said.
Speaking with Newsbreak.ng, Bamidele narrated how he was influenced by a friend he simply identified as ‘Tboy’
He said: “I am a student of Caleb University and I regret venturing into such act, I did it in order to raise money for my school fees. I bought the toy gun for two thousand nine hundred and ninety naira from Shoprite.
“I ordered Uber from Shoprite Surulere to Agric in Ikorodu, with the intention of robbing the driver. I don’t know what came over me.”
Bamidele added that he had convinced Anifowoshe to join him in the act. He also claimed his father is a politician, giving his name as Honorable Jimoh Moshood
The police boss said the two suspects will be charged for armed robbery at the end of investigation.
