Some youths belonging to the Shiites sect have reportedly taken over the Federal Secretariat ground in Abuja, Nigeria’s federal capital.
A report says the youths chased away a police team stationed on the premises, overturning the traffic warden post therein. The protesters are also said to be harassing vehicle owners driving along the route where they are. The police have reinforced and currently at the protest scene.
The Shiites group has been unrelenting in their protests and marches against the continued detention of their leader, Ibraheem El-Zakzaky.
Previous protests have resulted in clashes between the group and the police and, sometimes, resulting in deaths.
Despite a court order for his release, the Shiite leader, El-Zakzaky and his wife are still being held by the Nigerian Government.
