Vigilantes in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital, have killed a leader of the Eiye Confraternity on Saturday. Sources say the cultist identified as Yusuf, also known as Indomie, was killed by a bullet he fired at the guards. Explaining how it happened, a source told The Punch that the bullet ricocheted off the guards and hit Indomie.
He said, “We were told that he was coming from somewhere late in the night and was sighted by night guards, who challenged him to know where he was coming from at that time.
“In the process, an argument ensued and ‘Indomie’ removed a gun and shot at the night guards but the bullets returned and hit him in the chest. He died instantly at the scene.
“He was a member of a notorious cult and has been wreaking havoc on our community. We had tried in the past to put him behind bars. But to our surprise, after his arrest and arraignment in court, he would resurface. That has always been the case here.
“People will, at least, be relieved of the fear that his presence caused.”
Okasanmi Ajayi, the state Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident. He said the circumstances that led to his death are being investigated.
