Toyin Ibitoye, Super Eagles’ spokesperson, has revealed that the team will visit President Muhammadu Buhari before flying out for the World Cup in Russia.
Ibitoye revealed this on Tuesday during an appearance on Channels Television's ‘Sport Tonight’.
He said, ”Before we fly out for the World Cup, we will meet with the president in Abuja. He is the head of the country and we need his blessings.”
Although the media officer did not mention when the visit will take place, some reports have speculated May 29; the day after the scheduled friendly against Congo DR in Port Harcourt.
The team is expected to fly to England, where they will face the English National team in another warm-up game on June 2 at Wembley.
Coach Gernot Rohr will name his final 23-man squad for the tournament on or before June 6, as mandated by FIFA.
