Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed that his beard is the reason for his impressive start to the 2018 World Cup in Russia. The 33-year-old currently tops the goal scorers chat with 4goals after two matches. He netted a hatrick against Spain, as well as the only goal against Morocco on Wednesday. Ronaldo, who usually wear a clean shave, told reporters after his team’s win over the North Africans, that the beard was a good luck charm. He said the beard began as a joke between him and teammate, Ricardo Quaresma, before the World Cup. He said: “My new beard? That was a joke with Quaresma. We were in the sauna and I started shaving my beard. I left a bit and said that if I scored against Spain, I wouldn’t shave it until the end of the World Cup. In the end it brought luck, I scored (a hattrick). I scored against Morocco again. So, I’m going to keep it.” With his goal, which eliminated Morocco from the World Cup, the Portuguese has now scored 86 International goals, surpassing Ferenc Puskas’ European record. He is also the oldest man to score a hat-trick at the World Cup at 33 years and 130 days.
