Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe's lawyer, Chukwuma-Machukwu Ume, has revealed the reason for his client's arrest by the Department of State Services.
Ume said according to a search warrant produced by the DSS, the senator was accused of gunrunning and supporting the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, a proscribed group.
Ume said this on Saturday while briefing newsmen in Abuja. He said the search lasted from 5:30pm to 11:15pm on Friday.
He said the operatives could however not find any incriminating materials at the house. He said they had seized two phones belonging to two United States citizens and a laptop containing examination questions belonging to an educationist. Ume added that 27 items were seized in all.
Ume said Abaribe will appear before a court on June 26, 2018.
Abaribe was surety to Nnamdi Kamu, leader of IPOB.
