The Federal High Court on Tuesday rejected the request to order the Department of State Services to release Senator Eyinnaya Abaribe, representing Abia South Senatorial District. Abaribe was arrested by the DSS last Friday in his Abuja residence without giving a reason. His lawyer, Chukwuma-Machukwu Ume, had said on Sunday that his client’s house had been searched over allegeations of gun-running and supporting the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, IPOB. Kanu had disappeared after he was released in bail with Abaribe and two others standing as surety in the application. Abaribe had been summoned to appear before the court on March 28, 2018, to explain why Kanu was not produced for his trial.
