Unknown gunmen have killed Eze Brendan Ibekwe, a traditional ruler in Mgbe, in the Orlu Local Government Area of Imo state. The deceased was said to have been shot, sustaining injuries to his head.
“They made sure that there was no sign of life in him before they left,” a source told PUNCH Metro.
The assailants allegedly made away with the deceased's royal wrist bead and phone and dumped his corpse on the Orlu-Owerri Expressway, where it was found.
The incident occurred on Sunday.
Andrew Enwerem, the state Police Public Relations officer, PPRO, confirmed the killing. He said the state Commissioner of Police, Dasuki Galandanchi, had ordered a thorough investigation into the killing.
“The CP has called for a thorough investigation into the killing. The State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department has been instructed to take over the investigation process,” the newspaper quoted Enwerem as saying.
