Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr, is confident captain Mikel Obi will recover in time for the crucial final Group D game against Argentina on June 26.
Mikel sustained a wrist injury during Nigeria’s 2-0 win over Iceland at the Volgograd Arena on Friday.
The Tianjin TEDA midfielder was treated by Super Eagles team doctors, but was still feasibly holding his left wrist towards the end of the encounter. The incident sparked fears he could sit out the match against Argentina.
But Rohr, while providing update on the injury to his skipper, said Mikel will play against the Selecao.
“No issues with Mikel Obi, he will recover in time for the next game,” he told journalists after the game against Iceland.
Nigeria must avoid defeat against Argentina, and hope for a favourable outcome in the match between Iceland and Croatia, to progress to the knockout stages of the World Cup.
Both matches will be played simultaneously.
