Lai Mohammed, Minister of Information and Culture, has said that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, celebrated the death of late MKO Abiola adding that the opposition danced over his grave during its 16 year rule.
The minister said this in an interview with TheCable in Cambridge.
“For 16 years the PDP danced over the grave of MKO Abiola and failed to recognise June 12 for what it was, and when President Buhari decided to take action and recognise MKO Abiola posthumously, the naysayers went on social media to say it is done for politics,” he said.
“Why didn’t they do it for politics?” Lai Mohammed asked rhetorically.
MKO Abiola is the presumed winner of the June 12 1993 Presidential election, which was annulled by former military president Ibrahim Babangida.
Lai Mohammed was at Cambridge to deliver a keynote address at the 2018 “Africa Together Conference” hosted by the African Society of Cambridge University, ASCU.
