Patrick Pascal, the team coordinator of the Super Eagles, on Monday slammed reports suggesting that Mikel Obi and Ogenyi Onazi are not in talking terms over “certain issues” in the camp. Pascal said there was no” iota of truth” in the rumour.
Reports had last week emerged from a popular blog site of a rift between the team’s skipper, Mikel and his vice, Onazi, in Austria, where the team has been camping.
Speaking in an interview with Brila FM which was monitored by our correspondent, Pascal said the report was false as it failed to provide proof there was a rift between the two players.
He said, “If there is fight, let them proof there is fight. We released a video showing Mikel and Onazi surprised about the report. The problem with our journalist back home is that they cannot balance news. The report said our source, who is the source, is it spirit?” he retorted.
The team’s coordinator also confirmed that the team will depart for Russia this afternoon, en route Vienna.
“We would be going to Russia through the Vienna airport at 2.30pm today (Monday). We want Nigerians to believe and pray for us,” he added.
The Nigerian Football Federation, NFF, had last week, through its Twitter handle, posted a video of Mikel and Onazi sitting and cracking jokes together, to dispell any talk of rumour within the team.
Onazi was heard to have said in the video that the reports were "a distraction" to the team as they seek to win the World Cup for the very first time.
