A High Court sitting in Owerri, the Imo State capital, has stopped the swearing-in of Callistus Ekenze, the deputy governor-designate on Tuesday.
Militus Nlemadium, the state Commissioner for Justice and Attorney-General, announced to the audience, which comprised of Governor Rochas Okorocha and other top government officials, that the swearing-in would not hold due to the court order.
Nlemadium however urged the audience to be patient as the state government had filed all legal processes to set aside the order. Reports say the court order is due to a suit filed by Eze Madumere, the impeached Deputy Governor, challenging his impeachment by the House of Assembly.
Madumere was impeached on Monday.
