Flying Eagles Thrash Mauritania To Qualify For AFCON

The Flying Eagles have qualified for the 2019 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations after thrashing Mauritania at the Agege Stadium in Lagos on Saturday.

The side were 5-0 victors over their guests to secure a place in the tournament holding in Niger Republic. The final scoreline ended 6-1 after the sides played a 1-1 draw at Mauritania.

The ticket means the Eagles return to the tournament after missing out on the 2017 edition in Zambia.

Wasiu Alalade gave the Flying Eagles the lead in the 12th minute before Nazifi Yahaya doubled their lead on 33 minutes. Yahaya grabbed his second goal to put the Flying Eagles 3-0 up in the 46th minute. Aniekeme Okon made it 4-0 in the 67th minute while Norway-based Aremu Afeez rounded off the rout by converting a 91st minute penalty.

The Flying Eagles now join hosts Niger Republic, Burkina Faso and South Africa who have also booked their place in the tournament.
