Super Eagles defender, Tyronne Ebuehi, has sustained a damage to his left cruciate ligament.
The full back suffered the injury during his new club, Benfica’s International Champions Cup defeat to Juventus on Saturday.
“The athlete Tyronne suffered a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament of the left knee and will undergo surgical intervention in the next few days,” Benfica announced on their website Monday.
No further detail was rpovided about the injury, but the Nigerian is expected to be out of action for a while.
Ebuehi, who joined the Portuguese giants from ADO Den Haag in June, had replaced André Almeida in the 67th minute of his side’s loss 4-2 loss to the Italian giants. Benfica lost 4-2 on penalties after playing 1-1 at regulation period.
He featured once for the Super Eagles against Iceland at the 2018 World Cup in Russia. He has made seven appearances for Nigeria.
