Ibrahim Dankwambo, the Governor of Gombe State, on Saturday declared his intention to contest for the office of President in the 2019 general elections.
Governor Dankwambo, who made his declaration via Twitter, expressed his desire to be Nigeria's top elected political leader on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He disclosed that he decided to contest for the presidency after embarking on "wide consultations" with various Nigerians.
Governor Dankwambo tweeted, “After wide consultations with party members & Nigerians of diverse backgrounds! I, Dr Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo will be running for office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria under the platform of our great party, the People’s Democratic Party. #GoingBeyondPromises."
The Gombe Governor is the fifth aspirant to announce his candidacy in the PDP. Others are former vice-president Atiku Abubakar; Senator Ahmed Makarfi, a former governor of Kaduna and former chairman of the PDP; Sule Lamido, a former governor of Jigawa; Attahiru Bafarawa,a former governor of Sokoto and Tanimu Turaki, a former minister under former president Goodluck Jonathan.
