Sen. Godswill Akpabio, Minority Leader of the Senate, is reportedly considering leaving the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to join the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC.
The former Akwa Ibom governor was said to have met with Vice President Yemi Osinbajo in Aso Rock on Friday.
The PUNCH reports that a source claimed Akpabio was considering he move because the APC-led government was threatening to use the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission against him if he did not work to deliver his state to them in 2019.
“What is happening is that the APC has threatened to deal with him, using the EFCC and he doesn’t want that at all,” the newspaper quoted a source as saying.
“Although, we are all pleading with him not to leave the party (PDP), but he is afraid. He doesn’t want to be in EFCC’s net at all. He is really under pressure but we hope that he would listen to us.”
