Eric Abidal, Barcelona’s technical director has denied holding a secret meeting with Paul Pogba over a proposed switch to the Camp Nou, according to The Sun.
Tuttosport had claimed that Pogba, who is currently on holiday in Beverly Hills after winning the World Cup in Russia last month – would be open to a move to Barcelona.
The report further claimed that Abidal, also a French national, met with Pogba in a private meeting at a Los Angeles villa, to discuss a possible transfer to the Spanish giants.
However, Mundo Deportivo reports that the former Barcelona defender rejected the accusation. Abidal noted he knew the Manchester United star was in LA, but he did not approach him.
The 38-year-old assured United that he would contact the club first if Barcelona is interested in any of its players.
United spent a world record £89million to sign Pogba from Juventus in 2016.
The midfielder has struggled to consistently perform at Old Trafford, which forced the club’s coach, Jose Mourinho, to drop him on a number of occasions.
