Claude Puel, Leicester City manager, has revealed that the pair of James Vardy and Harry Maguire will miss the Premier League opener against Manchester United at Old Trafford on August 11.
The players are expected to return to the club next week after extended break, owing to England’s prolonged participation at the 2018 World Cup.
Puel disclosed this on Wednesday after the club’s 1-1 draw against Valencia at the King Power Stadium in final pre-season warm up game. According to him, the club will not rush the duo back into the team after the World Cup.
“I think if we are serious they cannot participate in this first game with five days training session with the team,” Puel said.
"Jamie and Harry are valuable players for us but we need to protect them also”.
“We try to give them good game time to work with the team and make progress with their fitness. We try to respect all this and avoid injury”.
“It is important after the World Cup to work of course but to come back with the team and live with the team and to find again the atmosphere of the squad and club."
This is coming at a time when Manchester United have been strongly linked with the centre back, following his impressive performance for the Three Lions at the tournament in Russia.
