Sam Vincent, coach of Nigeria’s women national basketball team, D’Tigress, has reportedly been fired.
According to Brilafm.net, the coach was dismissed by the Nigeria Basketball Federation, NBBF, for “negligence of duty and divided loyalty.”
The federation was said to have alleged that Vincent had been on and off camp, noting he was absent when a heated session broke out between a senior and junior player in the team during the week.
Peter Ahmedu, the assistant coach, who described the development as shocking, said there won’t be any void for laxity.
Ahmedu, speaking with the source from the team’s camp in Atlanta, assured that the coaching crew will do its best with the team. However, he said the crew will await further directive from the NBBF.
The Nigeria senior Women’s team is currently preparing for the 2018 FIBA World Cup, where the team will face Australia, Turkey and Argentina in the group in Group B. The competition kicks off on September 22, in Spain.
