Abbey Ukpukpen, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has been declared the winner of the bye-election conducted on Saturday to fill the vacant Obudu constituency seat in the Cross River State House of Assembly.
Frankland Briyai, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Resident Electoral Commissioner in Cross River State, who announced the result on Sunday, said Ukpukpen polled 12,712 votes, being the highest.
The PDP's candidate, therefore, gained more than 8,000 votes over her closest rival, Ishamali Bendel, of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who got 4,345 votes.
Awafang Angiating of Mega Party of Nigeria (MPN), polled 132 votes, while Agwupuye Umeka of African Democratic Party (ADP), got 114 votes.
Ukpukpen will now assume the seat made vacant by Stephen, her late husband, who died in May.
