Nigeria U-20 women’s team, the Falconets, earned their first win in Group D of the 2018 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in France following a hard-fought 1-0 win against Haiti on Thursday.
Rasheedat Ajibade scored the only goal of the game in the 36th minute after converting from the penalty spot, following a foul on Anam Imo inside the box.
The win saw the Falconets move up to second in Group D on three points, while Haiti are out after suffering their second defeat.
The Falconets will face China in their final Group game on Monday and must avoid defeat to qualify into the quarter-finals.
In the group’s other game, Germany confirmed their qualification into the knockout stage after they beat China 2-0 on Thursday.
