A 23-year-old unemployed man, Chukwujekwu Obi, has been arraigned before a Badagry Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly stealing a tricycle worth N700, 000. The tricycle is said to belong to one Sylvester Okechukwu.
“The tricycle was parked at the bus stop, and the accused drove it away, thinking no one was watching him. The complainant caught and handed the accused over to the police,” Akpan Ikem, police prosecutor told the court on Thursday.
Ikem said that the defendant committed the offence on July 27, at Shibiri Bus Stop, in the Ajangbadi area of Lagos state. He added that the offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).
The accused, however, pleaded ‘not guilty’ to the lone count charge of theft preferred against him.
Chief Magistrate, Patrick Adekomaya, granted the accused bail in the sum of N300, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
The case was adjourned till September 9, 2018, for further hearing.
