The second edition of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB, football tournament would kick-off on September 30 in Ilorin, Kwara State.
The Kwara State Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Muyideen Alalade, who disclosed this in Ilorin, said the competition, sponsored by JAMB with N25 million, would end on Saturday, October 6, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.
The tournament, which is aimed to encourage students to always engage in sports for physical and mental fitness, is open to all interested tertiary institutions in the country.
However, 16 institutions are selected on knockout basis to participate in the final.
Speaking further, Alalade said aside from getting trophies, there would be cash rewards for the winners and also the second and third-placed teams.
He, however, added that the number of institutions that would participate in the tournament had not increased, but commended JAMB for giving the state the opportunity to host the tournament again and lauded the state government for its sports facilities and manpower to always host national Games.
The maiden edition, which also held in Ilorin in 2017, was won by Niger State College of Education who beat Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto, 4-3 on penalties.
Delta State University, Abraka, came third by defeating Kwara State College of Education, Oro 4-2 also on penalties after they both played 1-1 in regulation time.
