Man Sentenced To Death For Armed Robbery

An High Court sitting in Akure, the Ondo State capital, has sentenced a man James Ofem to death by hanging.

The convict was arrested by men of the state Police Command in 2017 for armed robbery and was said to be part of the robbery gang terrorising residents of the state.

Wale Bamisile, a prosecutor from the Department of Public Prosecutions, Ondo State Ministry of Justice,  said the convict and his gang conspired to rob one Adamu Mustapha of his CoolPad phone, Infinix and Nokia handsets

The victim, Mustapha, also a witness, told the court that he and a motorboy were ambushed by Ofem’s robbery gang around Liyetu village on the Ondo-Ore Road.

Justice Williams Olamide, in his judgement said that Ofem was guilty of the charges of conspiracy and armed robbery preferred against him.

“The prosecution has proved the robbery case beyond reasonable doubt with evidence that the accused person is indeed guilty of the crime,” Olamide said.

He sentenced the convict to death by hanging.
