Two friends were on Friday arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrates' Court for allegedly stealing a car valued at N2 million.
The accused, Onyema Nwakwo, 32, and Ijeoma Onuwa, 27, said to be car wash attendants, allegedly stole the vehicle, which was entrusted to them by one Chidi Ikpegbu to sell.
“The car was displayed at a public place until the first accused drove it to the second accused house where it was reported to have been stolen,” police prosecutor, Innocent Odugbo, told the court.
“All efforts by the complainant to retrieve his car failed and he reported the case at the police station.”
Odugbo said that the defendants committed the offence on August 6, in the Agege area of Lagos state. He added that the offence contravened Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The suspects pleaded “not guilty” to the two counts charge of conspiracy and theft preferred against them.
Presiding magistrate, S. K. Matepo, granted the accused bail in the sum of N700, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
The case was adjourned till October 10, for mention.
