AFCON Qualifer: South Africa Go Top After Thrashing Seychelles

Bafana Bafana of South Africa thrashed visiting Seychelles 6-0 in Saturday's Group E  2019 Africa Cup of Nations to go top.

It was South Africa's second group win following their 2-0 matchday one win against Nigeria in Uyo in June, 2017.

An own goal from Seychelles' Nigel Hoareau, and strikes from Thulani Hlatshwayo, Lebo Mothiba and Percy Tau and Dino Ndlovu gave South Africa the comfortable win.

After withstanding early pressure from South Africa, the defence of Seychelles eventually caved in on 23 minutes as Hoareau put the ball into his own net.

Just two minutes after the opening goal, South Africa went 2-0 up through Hlatshwayo before Lebo Mothiba made it 3-0 in the 27th minute.

In the 74th minute Percy Tau got on the score sheet to put South Africa 4-0 up before Dino Ndlovu added the fifth goal with nine minutes left before Teboho Mokoena completed the rout in the 90th minute.

South Africa now go top in Group E on seven points while Seychelles remain bottom with no point.

Both teams will square off in the reverse fixture which comes up on Tuesday, October 16 in Seychelles.
