AFCON Qualifier: Onazi Out Of Libya Encounter Through Injury

Ogenyi Onazi, the second deputy captain of the Super Eagles, would miss today’s 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier between Nigeria and Libya at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, due to injury.

It was learnt that Onazi, who plays for Trabzonspor of Turkey, picked up an injury during one of the team’s training sessions.

The extent of the injury was not yet ascertained by the team doctors as at Friday evening, sources in the Super Eagles told reporters.

It is unclear if the midfielder would recover in time for the return leg against the Mediterranean Knights on Tuesday, October 16, in Sfax, Tunisia.

Fellow midfielders, Oghenekaro Etebo and Hapoel Be’er Sheva, are expected to compete for the sole spot to replace the AFCON 2013 winner at the heart of the Eagles’ midfield for the encounter.
