Real Madrid Is Europe’s Most Stable Club – Study

European Champions, Real Madrid, have been named the most stable football club in the continent, with first team players staying at the club on the average of six years.

In a study conducted by CIES Football Observatory, players fielded by the club this season, have had an average stay of 5.84 years, which is higher than any other team in Europe’s top five leagues.

The three-successive Champions League winners are one of the three teams to field players who have been in the first team for an average of five years or more.

La Liga rivals, Barcelona, behind Madrid, have most players who have stayed for about 5.36 years, and Bundesliga Champions, Bayern Munich are third with 5.26 years.

Unsurprisingly, there seems to be a strong correlation between stability and success, while teams with high a turnover of first-team players tend to perform badly.

Tottenham Hotspur, who have long-serving players like Hugo Lloris, Jan Vertoghen and Danny Rose, are England’s most stable club with most first team players staying for about 3.89 years. Manchester United are second with 3.72 years, while Bournemouth come third with 3.37 years.

Meanwhile, the study revealed that Madrid may be the most stable side in Europe, but have also gone into the records on a negative note.

The Los Blancos have gone 409 minutes without scoring a goal, with their last scored by Marco Asensio in a 1-0 win over Espanyol.

The recent goal drought of the Bernabeu side is so uncharacteristically, that only French League 1 side, Dijon, have gone more time—437 minutes than Madrid without a goal in Europe.
