Many people are feared dead after a petroleum tanker burst into flames in an area of Cross River State on Friday.
The incident occurred at Odukpani Local Government Area of the state, Channels Television reports.
It was learnt that some residents of the area were scooping petrol from a fallen tanker when it suddenly exploded and caught fire.
The tanker, which was loaded with petrol, was said to have suddenly lost balance towards the Federal Odukpani axis of the highway and fell, thereby spilling its content in the process.
Many people were said to have rushed to the scene to scoop the spilled fuel when the explosion happened.
Majority of the victims are said to have sustained third-degree injuries and are currently at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital.
The number of casualties was, however, unknown as at the time of the news medium’s report.
