Rashford Can Be As Prolific As Harry Kane, Says Solskjaer

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Manchester United’s interim manager, has said he believes club forward, Marcus Rashford, has the attributes to be “a top, top striker” as England team-mate, Harry Kane.

Solskjaer has used Rashford in his favourite centre forward role since he took over at the club last month, with the former youth academy product scoring three goals in his last four starts.

The 21-year-old is favoured to start on Sunday, when the club take on Tottenham Hotspurt at Wembley in the Premier League.

Kane is widely recognized as one of the best strikers in the league, but Solskjaer noted that there is no reason why Rashford cannot eventually reach his level.

“He can become a top, top striker. We can talk about Harry Kane and his class, I’m sure Marcus has got the potential to get up there,” Solskjaer said.

“He’s got frightening pace, he’s now become stronger and can hold the ball up for us. He’s a great link player.

“He’s been brought up here and there were a couple of sessions [in Dubai] with the young kids, [Tahith] Chong, Angel [Gomes] and Jesse [Lingard], where they play together in a certain way.

“He’s a very exciting player to work with.”

Solskjaer has matched Matt Busby’s record by winning his first five games as manager at United, though the game against Spurs will be his first major test.

The former striker will be in charge at Old Trafford until the end of the season, but his quest to become the permanent successor to Mourinho will become compelling if he gets the better of Mauricio Pochettino, who has been linked with taking the job at the end of the season.
